How to Know if You are a Changemaker
A changemaker is someone who is taking creative action to solve a social problem.
It’s mid-2022, and it has been two years since we all received a pandemic wake-up call. Do you remember where you were or when you found out that the world as we knew it would shut down?
Little did we know that the world shutting down was only the starting point to a time of tremendous compilation of who we are as individuals, as a community, society, and world. The ripple effect of having to slow down and look ourselves in the mirror has taken us to a place we have never been in history; the gateway to our redemption or destruction.
In this time of unprecedented revelation into how deep our issues of injustice, environmental crisis, economic inequality, and social confusion are, it is time to decide if you are willing to take a stand.
Before making a decision, it is crucial to ask yourself if you are willing to be part of the solution since it has clearly been established that the problems have reached a crisis level and no longer need new contributors.
That’s the first sign of a changemaker you want to fix a problem and make it better.
Here are some more signs that you may be a changemaker:
- You Are Ready to Approach Your Life Differently
If you are going to become your own superhero, you are going to have to do things in your life differently. You may have to change how you eat, travel, what you read or buy, who you hang out with, and where you go. Change is not easy, but before you can make a real impact in the world, you must start with yourself.
2. You Want to Learn How You Can Contribute
The problems we are experiencing and seeing out in the world are pretty deep. Money isn’t going to solve a lot of them. If you have skills in communication, writing, talking, offering support, or a strong understanding of empathy, learn how to use your gift to help people.
3. You Are Real
It’s not your fault that we live in a world so fake that the truth scares people but learn to let your authentic self shine through so that your truth comes out. If you disagree with what 99% percent of the people are saying, wearing, or doing, stick to your guns. If right now your life is not going in the direction you want it to, say so, and don’t pretend everything is perfect. Don’t think you have to run with the crowd.
4. You Know What You Stand For
Are you feeling under attack, afraid to say what you believe, or realize that you may not understand how you think as much as you thought you did? It’s time to decide; staying on the fence is no longer safe. We are in times of significant change, and you must become steadfast in your beliefs.
5. You Make It Your Goal to Share, Not Win
When you decide to say something about an issue, realize that other people may not share your perspective, and that’s okay. Telling people how you feel and think is not about being right. You are communicating to gain an understanding of other people and yourself.
