When a Line Needs to Be Drawn in the Sand

Equity and equality have become the theme words of this new decade. Everyone wants to have an opportunity to be part of something, be counted, or have their say. Instead of equity and equality, what we need is justice.

Justice is deeper than equity and equality because it asks if it is right. This new decade is shedding light on our moral character; it’s nice to be fair, but it’s better to be right.

Here is how to reach for justice:

  1. Stop Getting Lost in the Small Issues

When we focus on problems affecting one or two people, we tend to lose sight of the more significant issues we need to work on as a society. People continuously get sucked into mindless activities like social media and celebrity drama. Stop losing time in dead-end activities.

2. Realize the Biggest Problems Affect All of Us the Same Way

The pending climate crisis should be a wake-up call for all of us that things that we thought only “affect those people” are far from the truth.

3. Stop Asking for Fairness

We are not all given the same gifts or life purpose by design, but that does not mean you are less important. You are put in the circumstances you are currently in to be part of a larger message that has to be told about the world.

4. Forget About Yourself For a Moment

If we are honest, we mostly think about ourselves and our needs first; occasionally, let’s try to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes.

5. Come to Terms with Your Humanity

You will mess up in this thing called life; learn to accept it and admit it. The world would be happier if we were willing to own up to our mistakes.
